Circuits and Reading Takeaways 14-1
Above is my experimentation with circultry I did with Jane in the NMNF class. We decided to create the little dipper constellation. It took a bit of testing to get it to work, but it was fun to do. I would love to incorporate this into my classroom. I think students would have a great time learning this.
Takeaways
Two takeaways I got from the reading are that computers can mean anything and having an active learning interest in technology. There is the computer that we use everyday and there are objects that can also compute. It is interesting how you can attach this device to a myriad of objects to perform a number of ideas or activities. I was especially drawn to the puppetry in reading from MIT. This could really draw in students to computing with the thought of creating a story with puppetry. I would need to learn a bit more about coding to actually teach this in a class.
Technology is always changing and evolving. It is important to constantly learn how to incorporate coding and technology into your life. It is not about "fluency" but about building up skills. I think it is almost impossible to keep up with being fluent in technology. It is always changing. What matters is knowing enough to engage students in experimentation.
Electronics can bring another dimension to the classroom. We as artists are makers and innovators. I like to figure things out and love the challenge. Students are drawn to electronics and it would be greatly beneficial to incorporate it into the classroom. Electronics could add another layer to the creative atmosphere to lessons and learning. This newer way of learning and using materials can add more relevance to your/ my practice as an art teacher.
